Student Publishing Opportunities

The following sites allow students to have their work published.  Some are published through the website and others give you the opportunity to create books, etc.  As of this date, these websites are current.  Please let me know if the links do not work.
Students can submit writing.  If writing is published, students will receive a $50 savings bond.
Students can submit work to be published online.  You need to check this site often as they do not always inform you when work has been chosen.
Check to see if they have a writing contest for students. They periodically offer contests with specific dates.

Elementary Battle of the Books

Elementary Battle of the Books is a program sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Association to promote reading and to expose fourth and fifth grade students to quality literature in a wide range of genres. A team is selected from participating students to compete in a district-wide competition which is held at Davie High School in the spring.

Teams of fourth and fifth graders read books from a predetermined reading list of twelve titles. During the competition, the teams are asked questions about the books. After conferring with their teammates, students then must give the correct title and author of the book.

In order to compete in Battle of the Books participants need to read all 8 of the 10 titles and score 80% or higher on the online test.

Interested students have access to multiple copies of these books in their Media Center as well as the Davie County Public Library.
