About DCS Preschool
Davie County Schools child care and preschool services meet five-star facility requirements and serve children ages two through five years of age. The program provides for both special needs and typically developing children. Our lead teachers have a minimum of a 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education/ Birth to Kindergarten and our staff to child ratios are no more than one teacher to 9 children in each classroom. Teacher assistants have acquired Early Childhood Credentials and are working towards associate degrees in Early Childhood.

1:6 staff-to-child ratio with a maximum 18 of children in each class (1 teacher and two assistants).
Developmental Early Learning class for ages 2-3
Developmental Readiness class for ages 3-4
Kindergarten Readiness classes for ages 4-5
The application process determines eligibility, which is administered by the Preschool Director, North Carolina Prekindergarten guidelines, or an IEP Team, if the child has special needs.
Operating hours are 7:00 AM - 4:50 PM (7:00 AM - 4:30 PM effective 06/19/23) and the rate is currently $540.00/month, plus the cost of meals. For more information, contact Kay Walker, Preschool Enrollment Data Manager, at 751-0016.

The application process determines eligibility and is administered by the Preschool Director and guidelines set forth by the NC Pre-K State program.
All sites have above a 5.0 on the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales, which is a minimum requirement by our Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE). Operating hours are 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM and the rate is currently $510.00/month, plus the cost of meals.

NC Pre-K applications are for children who will turn four by August 31.
The North Carolina Prekindergarten program (NC Pre-K) is designed to prepare at-risk four year old children in North Carolina for success in school. Children attend a full 6.5 hour school day (8:00 AM—2:30 PM), 180 days, that meets high quality state standards. For more information about NC Pre-K, please click here.
Each Davie County Schools' Preschool site offers NC Pre-K funded slots for children. To apply for this FREE program, contact us at 336-751-0016 or click on the link below to complete the application. Please submit the completed application, along with supporting documents, to the Preschool office, located at 220 Martin Luther King Jr. Rd., Mocksville, NC 27028. Applications for the next school year are accepted starting in January of that year.

Wrap Around Care (WAC)
Wrap Around Care (before/after school care) is a fee for service program available on a limited basis for students that receive funding, such NCPK scholarships or Exceptional Children Services, for the 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM instructional day. This service extends your child's care beyond the regular school hours. Wrap Around Care hours are 7:00 AM - 4:50 PM (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM effective 08/22/23) at Central Davie and 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM at preschool sites located at an elementary school. Families paying tuition do not need to pay for the wrap around care, as it is included in your tuition. If you are in need of extended care for your child and you do not currently pay tuition, please use the following link to register for WAC services:

Central Davie's operating hours are from 7:00 AM to 4:50 PM (7:00 AM - 4:30 PM effective 06/19/23) . The allotted time for DCS employees' children at Central Davie is 7:15 AM - 4:15 PM, unless otherwise approved by the Director based on your location of work and available staff at Central Davie. Early Intervention
Davie County Schools Preschool Programs encompass a wide variety of services for children 3 to 5 years of age.
Exceptional Children's Preschool
Exceptional children services are available when a child has a disability that impacts their ability to access their regular educational environment. Davie County School system offers the following services when they are identified as a need but not limited to: speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or classroom/academic interactions. These services are free to a child who is determine eligible under NC guidelines of the IDEA Act and has an active IEP (Individual Education Plan). If you know of someone who may need these services, please call our office to begin a referral. We can assist families in providing available assessments to determine potential delays.
Every year our Speech Pathologists visit local daycares in the county to help assess children to determine eligibility for speech/language services. If you would like to have your child screened, please contact Central Davie, 751-0016, at any time during our offices hours 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Referrals are received and procedures are followed to access proper screenings and evaluations for eligibility determination to access our exceptional children services. Services can be administered within an early childhood environment, the home, a developmental day center, a public school setting, or another setting determined to be the least restrictive learning environment for the child. If you have concerns about your child's development call Lisa Hughes, referral/itinerant teacher, at 751-0016. Once the child turns four, we also assist the parents through the transition process to school age services.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. All meals, foods and beverages are prepared and served by qualified child nutrition professionals. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
NC Pre-K
NC Pre-K
Davie County Schools administers the North Carolina Prekindergarten program (NC Pre-K) contract for the county. Procedures for this program are produced through the DCDEE and a local NCPK committee. This program is for children who are four years of age on or before August 31 and fall within financial guideline set by the state. Also considered are previous preschool experiences, developmental concerns, and chronic health diagnosis.
All classrooms have a licensed Birth to Kindergarten Teacher and one Teacher Assistant with no more than 18 children. These classrooms operate no less than 6 1/2 hours with starting and ending times set by the individual facilities. All classrooms follow the school calendar for instruction. Central Davie is open on teacher professional days for their regular paying students.
If you apply for the NC Pre-K program to receive free preschool placement and find you are not eligible due to the factors listed above, we can help you locate a preschool program and possibly other financial resources to help pay for your child's preschool classroom in your community.

Preschool Supplies
School Supplies: If you would like to donate supplies, we can always use tissues, Ziploc bags, water colors, playdough, construction paper, bottles of school glue, Bingo markers/dabbers, paper towels and fat pencils throughout the year.
Your child may bring a small blanket and small stuffed animal to use during nap time. A small book bag is optional. Please keep in mind all items must fit within their cubby, along with their mat.
Your child’s required school supplies are listed below. Label these items with your child’s name.
● Change of clothes in a labeled Ziploc bag ● Diapers, Wipes if needed ● Playdough ● 2 Pocket folder ● Non-toxic glue sticks*
Students in a four-year-old classroom at CDEC and all students at school sites will need all the above and the following:
● 4 fold kinder mat 2 inches thick* ● Mat cover 2 king size pillowcases, 1 large body size pillow case, or small crib sheet
NOTE: We cannot accept gym mats or tri-fold mats that are 1 inch thick; they must be 4 fold and 2 inches to fit in our storage area.
* A mat, along with glue sticks, may be purchased for a fee of $20 from the Central Davie Preschool location while supplies last.
If your family is unable to provide these items due to economic hardship, please call our office so we can make arrangements for you to obtain the necessary items for your child.
