Jennifer Custer began her career in education after earning a B.S. in Special Education from Western Carolina University. She spent 10 years as a special education teacher in Davie County Schools before earning her Master’s in School Administration from Appalachian State University. She then served as an assistant principal and principal, bringing strong leadership to school communities. For the past 11 years, she has served as the Director of Exceptional Children's Programs and Student Services. With over 30 years of experience—all within Davie County Schools—Jennifer is dedicated to supporting students, empowering educators, and partnering with families to foster meaningful learning experiences for all.




Stephanie Hernon serves as the EC Program Specialist for the North Davie feeder pattern, Soaring Eagles at Davie High, and Central Davie Academy. Ms. Hernon earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado, where she focused on Special Education K-12. She completed her Master's in Education as an Intervention Specialist with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis and Academic Leadership and Coaching in 2016 from the University of Northern Colorado. Stephanie brings 13 years experience primarily working with high school students and in postsecondary programs for EC students. She is passionate about fostering positive school and community inclusion for students with special needs. She also serves as a member of the Assistive Technology team.
Deanna Blackwelder serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Exceptional Children's and Student Services Departments for Davie County Schools. Drawing on nearly fourteen years of invaluable experience within the district, she proficiently manages these crucial departments, providing seamless operations and comprehensive support for staff, students, and families. Mrs. Blackwelder is a proud 2003 graduate of Davie High School and earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from UNC-Asheville in 2006. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Mrs. Blackwelder enjoys her family life with her husband and their two daughters. Her dedication ensures a supportive and efficient environment for everyone she serves.
Melissa Kistner serves as an EC Program Specialist for Davie County Schools, bringing over two decades of dedicated service to the district since 2002. Throughout her career, she has had various roles, including general education teacher, resource teacher, self-contained teacher, and educational diagnostician. This diverse experience has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of student needs across all learning environments. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Radford University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from High Point University. Her extensive background and commitment to educational excellence make her an invaluable asset to our school community.
Candace Lindstrom serves as the EC Program Specialist for the South Davie Feeder Pattern and Davie County Early College, where she supports special and general education teachers, related service providers and completes federal reporting for NCDPI. With 25 years in education, Candace brings extensive experience from her decade as a high school classroom teacher and her role as Program Specialist since 2013. She previously served as Exceptional Children's Director in Rowan Salisbury Schools from 2017-2019. Candace holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill and a Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education from UNC Charlotte, combining her expertise to advocate for students.
